Clear your headspace by decluttering your living space. Visual clutter is getting in the way.
Many of us struggle with keeping our homes organized. Even a well organized home will feel cluttered because it only means we are finding space for everything. The real key to making your home feel great is decluttering. This often means purging. Purging can be a bit too drastic often. An offsite storage unit is the medium space that will allow you to declutter your home without the sacrifice of getting rid of your valuable items.
Mindfulness and meditation are great ways to help our well being. Thanks to apps such as Headspace, practicing mindfulness is as easy as opening the app on your phone. It helps to create the right environment as well. That starts with your living space. Visual clutter accumulates over time and it can make our homes look chaotic.
Why is the photo below so appealing? Matching table and chairs, clear hardwood floor, bare walls. This is a space that only has the essentials for day to day living. The table is not covered with mail, or a sewing machine. The window ledge is free of knickknacks. The coat rack is free of extra coats. I would feel very good simply sitting here and having a cup of coffee. I think you would too.
The hard part is getting to this place. Where are the children’s toys scattered, the boots, the family vacation photos? My family and I had an opportunity to move away from our house for 3 months this summer. We found a short term renter for the time and rented our house furnished. To get the house ready, we removed everything personal. The photos from the walls, the knick knacks on the mantle, the children’s toys. The house looked great. When we moved back, we found that most of the items we had boxed, stayed in boxes. We enjoyed our new tidy home. We did have to bring back some of the toys. And after 3 months of storage, the toys felt new to the kids.
A month later, we are starting to personalize our house again. New gadgets are popping up. The coat rack is packed with coats. This is the perfect time to take an inventory and make sure we keep on track. It will require a purge of summer items as we head into fall. By purge I mean some items do need to get donated or trashed. But to be more easy on my conscious, the durable items will get cleaned and boxed and ready for seasonal storage.
